Brief biography of Mrs. Ky Samphy, Executive Director

1.    Birth and family
Mrs. Ky Samphy was born on May 16, 1950 at Prek Taduong village, Prek Thmei commune, Koh Thom district, Kandal province; daughter of Ky Heng (father) and Kim Laun (mother). She was one of 9 siblings, 2 of them girls and was the youngest in her family.
2.    Education background
•    1966-1968, she studied at Nou Kan high school in Phnom Penh and she successfully obtained Level 1 diploma.
3.    Vocational training record
•    1968-1969, she attended primary school teacher training course at Teacher Training Center (TTC) in Phnom Penh, where she obtained her certificate qualifying her as a primary school teacher
•    1982-1983, she attended High School Teacher Level 1 training course at Regional Teacher Training Center in Kandal, successfully obtaining the diploma
•    1995-1996, she attended primary school inspector training course in Phnom Penh, successfully obtaining the certificate
4.    Employment record
•    1969-1970, she was primary school teacher at Thoam Viney Primary School, in Takeo’s Prey Kabas district
•    1971-1975, she was office staff in Office of Council of Ministry of National Education (OCMNE)
•    1975-1979, she was treated as slave during Khmer Rouge regime
•    1979-1980, she became primary school teacher and primary school director of Prek Taduong (Prek Taduong village, Prek Thmei commune, Kandal’s Koh Thom district)
•    1980-1984, she worked at District Office of Education in Koh Thom, Kandal province, she was responsible for the preschool sector.
•    1984-1986, she became high school teacher level 1, in charge of preschool, prominent child and youth sector; she also taught  political ethics at Prek Taduong secondary school.
•    1986-1995, she became primary school teacher level 1, in charge of education for elderly persons (non-formal education); she taught political ethics at grade 9, morality and philosophy at grade 7-12 at Koh Thom high school; she was also the part-time manager of vocational school (Level 3), Koh Thom’s satellite school.
•    1995-1997, she was student in primary inspector course
•    1996-1997, she was training assistant (working on early childhood for formal preschool), collaborating on pedagogical material production, following up teaching method and monitoring internship of students in preschool.
•    1997-1999, she became inspector of Provincial Office of Education in Kandal
•    1999-2021, she became board of director for Bandos Komar organization
•    2002-2016, she was founder and executive director of Krousar Yoeung association
•    2018-2021, she was founder and executive director of Sahakum Sopeakmongkol association (she delegated tasks and responsibilities to another person in the association on Jan 25, 2021; this was an intuitional arrangement before she passed away).
5.    Achievements and recognition record
•    She compiled books for children and trained dozen of teachers
•    She produced educational video clips which had been broadcasted on National Television of Kampuchea
•    She was rewarded gold medal “Chevalier de l'ordre national du mérite” from French government through French embassy in Cambodia
•    She obtained certificate of recognition from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, and Phnom Penh municipality
In 2017, Mrs. Ky Samphy became very ill from diabetes and hepatitis. She received specialised treatment in Calemet Hospital and from doctors in Thailand. With care from her sons, daughters-in-law, nieces/nephews, grand sons/grand daughters and her relatives, she became much better for a while. Unfortunately, she relapsed in 2021, during the outbreak of Covid-19, suffering from the effects of diabetes, hepatitis and cancer. On her death, she left behind beloved sons, daughters-in-law, nieces/nephews, grand sons/grand daughters, relatives and colleagues.
The death of Mrs. Ky Samphy is a huge loss of our great resource. On behalf of everyone; sons, daughters-in-law, nieces/nephews, grand sons/grand daughters and relatives,   express our sincere words in saying: “we are remorseful to lose our great humainitarian resource”.
We would like to pray for Mrs. Ky Samphy; may her soul rest in peace!
