Annual Report (October 2020-September 2021)

 In response to project implementation on Education and Livelihood Improvement of Children in Rural Area, the association invested all efforts to work as planned and seek for applicable and flexible methods to Covid-19 context which badly affected daily work, movement from one place to another in terms of humanity/ generosity since nearly all communities across Cambodia were temporally locked down to prevent the large spread of this disease.

Nevertheless, from Oct, 2020 to Sep 2021, the association still overcame obstacles in order to meet local authorities in villages, communes and districts, where covered by the project, once the Royal Government of Cambodia announced to postpone on locking down. Obviously, the team had achieved work plan with acceptable results as shown in the attached annual report.

Training in positive parenting to Parent Group Leader (PGL)

Even the project implementation faces the fearful pandemic (Covid-19), SSA put its efforts to consider the flexible training way to strengthen or share knowledge on positive parenting via Google Meet. As evidence, from 14-16 September 2021, Mr. Koch Neak, Program Manager and Mr. Pa Panha, Junior counselling and vocational skill training officer, together delivered positive parenting from distance to three parent group leader which mainly focused on the following topics:

1.    Child protection
2.    Parents health
3.    Family communication
4.    Parents’ duties and children’s tasks
5.    Child development
6.    Positive parenting
The provision of the training was the first step done by the association in order to move to various trainings, following up as well as echo-sharing of this positive parenting.

What is Education and Livelihood Improvement of Children in Rural Areas?

The project titled “Education and Livelihood Improvement of Children in Rural Areas” is the first project for SSA and it is the last project left by Ms. Ky Samphy, the Executive Director and founder of the association which she put all of her efforts to study situations of people in communities (in Sotra Nikum and Puok districts), and collect key information from Siem Reap province in the purpose of producing this project.
When the this project was finalized, Ms. Ky Samphy and her co-workers decided to submit it to Fondazione Apsara Onlus, situated in Italy, on September 9, 2020.
Few months later, the Fondazione Apsara Onlus replied in a positive way and the project activities were launched from October 1, 2020 through September 31, 2021.
What is the purpose of this project?
This project was designed to improve the study of young children in preschools and primary schools in two poor target areas of Siem Reap province, Sotra Nikum and Puok districts through the support on class reparation, pedagogic materials, hygiene materials and setting up playground for children.
In addition, the project also provides financial package to the poorest families with under-14 year old children to start their small-scale business based on their skill for earning incomes for families and support children’s schooling.
